A triple win for EC Human Settlements Projects at National Awards
EC Human Settlements projects scooped top awards at last night's National Govan Mbeki Awards held at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, earning the Province a win as first runner up in the Best Performing Province category.
The prestigious awards ceremony which recognises outstanding performance in the delivery of human settlements, awarded the Province with the Best Enhanced People’s Housing Project for Tiryville 48 in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM) and Best Established Woman Contractor, which went out to Mavis Kianna from Mambhele & Son, responsible for the Joe Slovo West 4040 Project in NMBM.
Furthermore, the Best Student in Scholarship Programme Category was won by Eastern Cape's Aiden Kilian.
The Eastern Cape also clinched the 1st runner up position as the Best Performing Province and was also awarded 2nd runner up positions for the following categories:
Best Social Housing Project in Willodene; Best Integrated Residential Development Project for Dukathole 140 in Joe Gqabi; and Best Metropolitan Municipality of the Year went to Buffalo City Metro.
The KSD 1188 project in the King Sabata Dalindyebo Local Municipality was 1st runner up for the Best Rural Project Category.
Uitenhage Tiryville 48, is an Enhanced People’s Housing Project which is a community driven project to provide residents with a safe environment with access to economic opportunities and social and economic facilities. The project was built with a budget of just over R4.4 million and is located in Uitenhage about 45km away from Port Elizabeth and consists of 48 spacious houses, each boasting 50m2, and a breakaway from the standard 40m 2. Each house consists of an open lounge, kitchen, two bedrooms and bathroom and toilet.
The Best Established Woman Contractor, Kianna is responsible for the Joe Slovo West 4040 Project in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro that also won at the provincial level for the Best Informal Settlements Upgrading Project.
The purpose of the Govan Mbeki Awards is to promote and inculcate a culture of excellence within the Human Settlement sector in the delivery of quality human Settlements and dignity to South Africans.
