The majority of beneficiaries are farm<br>workers, low-income earners and some are unemployed. They have been prioritised<br>as destitutes living in desperate conditions.<br>These include the child headed Nyokana family, comprised of four siblings &#8211; the eldest<br>being Anesipho Nyokana (21 years). They lost their parents in 2021. Two of the<br>younger siblings are staying with relatives while the others were staying with<br>neighbours. They will now receive keys to their new home.<br>This as the Department prioritises the destitute elderly, disabled, child headed families<br>and military veterans in the provision of decent quality houses. The beneficiaries<br>received a lifeline through a human settlements project, Gasela 75, which was aimed<br>to construct a total of 75 houses that will provide secure and affordable housing for the<br>vulnerable families.<br>The project already has 35 completed houses with beneficiaries already moved in.<br>This housing project represents government efforts to improve living conditions for<br>disadvantaged communities in the area, fostering an environment where families can<br>thrive with access to adequate housing and essential services.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eastern Cape Human Settlements MEC, Siphokazi Lusithi, will on Thursday, 21November 2024, handover 40 houses to families who were previously farm dwellersin Gasela under Amahlathi Local Municipality.
