The handover forms part of the Department\u2019s 16 Days of<br>Activism of no Violence Against Women and Children Campaign, aimed at protecting<br>the most vulnerable in society.<br>\u201cWe are here to open the 16 Days of Activism campaign by handing over these houses<br>to the elderly, women and child headed households. This becomes significant to us<br>during this campaign because the elderly and women are the most vulnerable when it<br>comes to abuse. We are therefore issuing out today sustainable housing, building<br>safer communities one house at a time,\u201d said MEC Lusithi.<br>One of the families who received their new house is that of mama Notolopitsi Bacwana<br>(76), who was living under poor conditions in a shack with her son and two<br>grandchildren. \u201cI am lost for words, but I am very happy, I never thought I could live in<br>a house made out of bricks, I can only say thank you for this house,\u201d said Bacwana.<br>The 22 families benefitted from the Kwelerha 54 Project, a housing project that is<br>providing 45 houses to the identified destitute families in Kwelerha.<br>This is part of the Department\u2019s activities lined up for the 16 Days of Activism of No<br>Violence Against Women and Children Campaign, which takes place from 25<br>November\u201310 December 2024.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eastern Cape MEC for Public Works, Infrastructure and Human Settlements,Siphokazi Lusithi, today, 26 November 2024, officially handed over 22 houses tofamilies who were destitute and vulnerable in Kwelerha under the Buffalo CityMetropolitan Municipality.
