This after they received a fully furnished new home from MEC of Eastern Cape Department of Human Settlements, Ms Nonkqubela Pieters in Makanda recently.<\/p>\n<p>The matriarch of the family, Magamle sadly passed away at the golden age of 105 while her house was under construction, leaving a legacy for her family to live under better conditions. The family was living in a dilapidated shack in Extension 6. \u201cThis is an emotional day for us, it was our mother\u2019s and our dream to have a better house, but it is also sad that she is no longer with us to see what we are seeing today,\u201d said Vuyokazi Skeyi, Magamle\u2019s daughter. The family could not hold back tears when they entered their new home.<\/p>\n<p>The house was built through a collaborative effort with MMS Construction, who sponsored the house and furniture to the family.\u00a0The Department is also prioritising the destitute and other vulnerable groups, focusing on the elderly, disabled, child headed families and military veterans.<\/p>\n<p>MEC Pieters has given a directive to municipalities to reprioritise their lists for houses to focus on the neediest. \u201cWe cannot start with the youth whilst the elderly need houses.
