MEC Pieters was addressing the senior management of the Department in a two-day Strategic Planning Session at the East London Golf Course today, 02 October 2019.

“Our people are now impatient and they require of us as leaders to put our hands on deck so as to speed up service delivery in our communities. We are Public Representatives and you are Public Servants. People don’t know the difference. They want to be served with speed.” The objective of the Strategic Planning Session is to review the performance of the Department for the last 5 years and also outline plans of the 6th Administration. The Department has built 60 159 units and delivered 49 208 services from 2014 to 2019.

In dealing with the challenges faced by the Department, MEC Pieters called on management to be diligent in their planning process which should be informed by evidence based researched outcomes. “Research has to be informed by planning and our policies must be informed by these research outcomes. Therefore, the ever – changing living conditions of our people require of government policies to these ever – revolving challenges faced by our people.”

The Department continues to fight corruption both internally and externally. “I wish to appeal to all our communities to speak out when a wrong is happening in their respective areas and are encouraged to report corruption to the police even if it means anonymously to protect themselves from victimization.” For this Financial Year, the Department will prioritise the most destitute by providing them with decent homes, focusing on the elderly, disabled, child headed families and the military veterans. This will be done through rigorous evaluation, review and reprioritization of its approved beneficiaries to ensure that it responds rapidly to the plight of the poor.

..………………..ENDS…………………………..

ISSUED BY : Ministry of Eastern Cape Human Settlements

Enquiries: Spokesperson Mr Masiza Mazizi

Cell: 072 389 8609

Facebook: EC Human Settlements News Channel

MEDIA STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ATT: REPORTERS, ASSIGNMENT EDITORS 02 October 2019 MEC PIETERS URGES PUBLIC SERVANTS TO SPEED UP DELIVERY FOR THE POOR East London — Eastern Cape Department of Human Settlements MEC, Nonkqubela Pieters, has urged the public servants to speed up service delivery through policies that prioritise the poor.
