The MEC of Human Settlements, Ms Nonkqubela Pieters, will hand-over the house to Maart who lives with his wife, 3 sons and 3 grandchildren. At the peak of his sporting career, Dean Maart was injured in an accident in the year 2000 which left him wheelchair bound. The family is dependent on his disability grant as the only source of income. They have been living in a temporary shelter provided by the Department assisted by the municipality. The new house is enhanced in size with grab rails, a ramp and larger doors, suitable for his condition.

The Department of Human Settlements is prioritizing the most destitute and vulnerable in society, focusing on the disabled, elderly, child headed families and on military veterans, by providing them with suitable quality homes. Maart has benefited from the Department’s Destitute and Vulnerable Groups Programme, an intervention that seeks to rescue the helpless and homeless from the trenches of poverty by restoring their dignity.

Members of the EC EXCO led by Premier Oscar Mabuyane, will be visiting Sarah Baartman District Municipality on 09-11 October 2019, to leave a legacy for those communities enhance service delivery in the spirit of “Thuma Mina” and “Khawuleza”.

Members of the media are invited to the handover to be held as follows;

DATE:          11 October 2019

VENUE:        Aeroville, erf 2006

                     Somerset East

TIME:            10H00

Issued by Ministry of Human Settlements (Eastern Cape)

Enquiries: Spokesperson Mr Masiza Mazizi

Cell: 072 389 8609/ 076 804 4292

Facebook: EC Human Settlements News Channel

MEDIA ALERT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ATT: REPORTERS, ASSIGNMENT EDITORS 08 October 2019 Former Somerset East rugby player to receive an enhanced new home East London ——– The life of Dean Maart, a former rugby player will be changed for the better when he receives a new home with disability special features during the Executive Council (EXCO) […]

[26
