This forms part of the efforts by the EC Department of Human Settlements to prioritirise the most destitute and vulnerable, including the elderly, people with disabilities (young and old), child headed households and military veterans, by providing them with safe and decent quality homes.<\/p>\n<p>The families form part of the 1284 beneficiaries who have benefitted from the Department\u2019s Cala 1284 Rural Enhanced People\u2019s Housing Process (EPHP) Project. A total of 401 houses have been completed in the project thus far, with beneficiaries already moved in. The EPHP is one of the Department\u2019s programmes whereby beneficiaries are actively involved in the decision making over their housing process. The programme emphasizes on skills development, community participation and local employment. The project covers 8 villages in Cala in Wards 7, 8 and 9.<\/p>\n<p>One of the beneficiaries include, 32-year-old Khanyisa Mara in Hota Village will receive a new house that will improve her life together with her two siblings. Mara\u2019s parents, who had no house for the family and were living with relatives passed away, leaving her with her younger brother and sister. The other beneficiary is 64-year-old Zenzile Ginyigazi from Mbhenge Village who is blind and currently living in a single rondavel structure.<\/p>\n<p>The project budget for the EPHP is R216 million for the construction of 1284 houses at size 40m<sup>2<\/sup>, the installation of rainwater tanks and building VIP toilet infrastructure services. They form a Community Based Organisation that is mentored by the appointed Community Resourced Organisation.
