Matatiele housing beneficiaries to receive title deeds<\/strong><\/p>\n

Matatiele<\/strong> ——–\u00a0Homeownership will become a reality for 267 beneficiaries of Njongweville in Matatiele Local Municipality. Eastern Cape MEC for Human Settlements, Ms. Nonkqubela Pieters, will handover title deeds to rightful beneficiaries on Monday, 26 October 2020. The handover forms part of the EXCO, led by Premier Oscar Mabuyane, service delivery visit to Alfred Nzo District Municipality.<\/p>\n

The Department together with the Matatiele Local Municipality have undertaken a verification process to ensure the rightful beneficiaries receive their title deeds. The recipients all benefitted from the Matatiele 306 housing project. The MEC will visit some of the elderly beneficiaries in their homes and handover their title deeds. This will be followed by a community engagement and handing over ceremony for the rest of the beneficiaries in the hall.<\/p>\n

Issuing of title deeds is one of the Department\u2019s priorities ensuring that beneficiaries can legally own their properties. The Department has been confronted with the huge backlog on the issuance of title deeds in the Province. This was brought about by numerous historical pre- conveyancing challenges at most of the municipalities. The Department has since put interventions to address some of these challenges and upscaled the issuance of title deeds. These include unlocking the pre-conveyancing activities that were delaying registration of title deeds by redressing the poorly planned urban developments and put in place general plans, township establishments, and township registers to accelerate registration of title deeds.<\/p>\n

The other intervention was to issue the title deeds to the beneficiaries that were already registered by municipalities when they were developers but were never issued.<\/p>\n

In the last financial year, the Department has managed to issue 647 title deeds for pre-1994 category and 4 781 title deeds for post-1994 to beneficiaries. A total of 1 873 title deeds were also transferred.<\/p>\n
