HUMAN SETTLEMENTS MEC, NONCEBA KONTSIWE PARTNERS WITH SABC AND OTHER STAKEHOLDERS TO GIVE A DISABLED ELDERLY WOMAN A NEW HOME IN HANKEY<\/p>\n
East London——- A 58-year-old destitute grandmother from Hankey will be receiving a new home through a partnership between the Eastern Cape Department of Human Settlements and SABC\u2019s Mhlobo Wenene radio station on Sunday, 29 August.<\/p>\n
Cikizwa Tom who is living with impaired hearing is part of scores of beneficiaries falling in our priority group – categorized under the destitute and vulnerable. They are catered for through a programme that prioritizes the disabled, elderly, child-headed families and military veterans.<\/p>\n
The Tom family became victim of a crime last year September after their nine-year-old granddaughter was killed. Mam\u2019 uCikizwa currently lives with her daughter and grandchild in a shack. Her plight was brought to the attention of the Department by the community through Imvuselelo, a Mhlobo Wenene radio show. MEC Kontsiwe will be joined by various men from different denominations who will be marching against Gender Based Violence. The new Tom family home has been fully furnished through donations from various stakeholders.<\/p>\n
