MEC PIETERS TO HANDOVER HOUSES BUILT BY EMERGING CONTRACTORS IN SARAH BAARTMAN
Sarah Baartman ——– In increasing empowerment opportunities and support to emerging contractors, MEC Nonkqubela Pieters will spread the Christmas spirit when she hands over 3 completed houses built by SMMEs in Woodlands under the Sarah Baartman District Municipality, on 16 December 2019.
The emerging contractor appointed for Woodlands, has completed all 24 units under the Woodlands 24 Housing Project. A total of 21 families has already moved into their completed houses. One of the beneficiaries to receive his new home on the day is 56-year-old Nomthandazo Ndam who lives with her 4 children. The other beneficiary is John Jeneker who lives with his wife and 4 children. The last beneficiary is Ntozelizwe Ncanywa who has 3 dependents.
The Department appointed 4 emerging contractors in Sarah Baartman who form part of the SMME incubator programme and were recommended as the best performing contractors by Coega Development Corporation. The contractors were appointed for the construction of 115 houses in the Koukamma Local Municipality, for the benefit of the destitute and vulnerable groups in society. MEC Pieters made a pronouncement during her Policy Speech to create opportunities for SMMEs through procurement and development opportunities. This year the Department is targeting to support 103 SMMEs towards sustainable business enterprise. The MEC will also officially open her Constituency office.
