MEDIA INVITE
PREMIER MABUYANE ALONGSIDE MEC PIETERS TO HAND OVER NEW HOUSE TO A DISABLED PERSON
All Media Houses and Free-lance journalists:
In Christmas spirit, it is with great pleasure that the Department of Human Settlements invites you to house handover to a disabled person by the Eastern Cape Premier and MEC of Human Settlements in Cala, Wednesday, 18 December 2019.
Phephelakhe William Samela, is beneficiary that will be receiving this brand new home. The 56 year old wheelchair bound, known in the village by Mgcina was leaving in a house that was not constructed to accommodate a disabled person’s needs. His living condition was brought forward to the Premier and the MEC this year during the taking legislature to the people. This was when they made a commitment that he would be staying in his new home built according to standard and specification of his needs by Christmas. The 50m2 house is donated by MMS Construction.
The expression “Nothing About Us Without Us” will be the spirit of the day, starting tonight as other disabled commuters will gather in numbers in support of their very own in this prestigious event. There are 200 blankets organised for them to sit comfortably in the open field infront of the house where they will also be served refreshments while they rejoice. The house will be lit up with Chrismas lights for all to admire.
Providing decent homes to the most destitute and vulnerable beneficiaries by prioritising quality homes for the disabled, the elderly, child headed families and military veterans remains MEC Pieter’s priorities.
