KWA-LANGA COMMUNITY GETS MUCH NEEDED STATE OF THE ART MULTI PURPOSE FACILITY
KARIEGA ————– The Eastern Cape Department of Human Settlements will officially open a state of the art multi-purpose community facility built at a cost of R26 million to the Kwa-Langa community in Kariega under Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality on Thursday, 04 March 2021. MEC for Human Settlements, Ms. Nonkqubela Pieters, will open the Tamboville Multi-Purpose Community Centre (MPCC) for community use and bring much needed services to the area as well as offer recreational space for the youth.
The centre is situated within close proximity to the community for them to access it easily. The MPCC has a multi-use indoor hall for indoor-sports and events, offices for sector departments, meeting rooms, kitchen for events, sports fields for tennis and netball, change rooms with ablution facilities catering for persons living with disabilities, cleaner’s storeroom and parking bays. The communities of Wards 50 and 53 will now have a central venue to converge and provide recreational space for the youth and vulnerable groups while also providing employment opportunities. The office space available for departments such as SASSA, SAPS and Health will provide access for the community to centralised government services. The centre will also assist government in management of Covid-19 pandemic through accessing these services.
While the Department of Human Settlements receives a budget primarily for housing delivery, it has become more imperative that the houses are part of a community and that community requires additional amenities from both the private and public sector. The MPCC serves as a cornerstone facility to generate social togetherness and community life that becomes a catalyst for further development through other state institutions, the private sector and the community itself.
