1000 FAMILIES BENEFIT FROM HOUSING PROJECT IN THORNHILL
A total of 1000 impoverished families will benefit from a 93 million rand project when Eastern Cape Human Settlements MEC, Nonceba Kontsiwe, hands over houses to destitute families in Thornhill under Enoch Mgijima Local Municiapality on 11 June 2021.
The project, aimed at providing decent quality houses to families living in appalling conditions in Ward 31, is now at its completion stage of 1000 units. One of the beneficiaries who will receive her new home is 39-year-old Nosipho Mdingi who is currently staying in a delipidated 1-roomed mud house with her 9 year old daughter. The Gift of the Givers will also assist with 100 food parcels to the families at the handover.
The department has 80 running projects in Chris Hani this financial year with a total budget of R262 million.
