MEC KONTSIWE TO HAND OVER A HOUSE TO A 95 YEAR OLD DESTITUTE GRANNY AND HER 13 DEPENDENTS
East London——- Eastern Cape Human Settlements MEC, Nonceba Kontsiwe, will hand over a house with special features to meet the needs of a destitute 95-year-old grandmother and her 13 dependents on 05 October 2021 in Ncera Location under Raymond Mhlaba LM. The 80m2 size house has been built through a partnership between the Department and a private company, CHS contactor.
The Majiba family became homeless after being evicted in a farm they were staying in. After hearing of her plight, the department mobilized sponsors and resources to ensure that this family gets a proper home. The intervention comes at a time when they are sharing a one roomed shack which was donated by neighbors in the village.
The new house has special features such as 6 rooms, a ramp and walk-way to the VIP toilet, which is more suitable for the family and elderly Majiba who can no longer walk due to old age.
The department is prioritizing the destitute and vulnerable groups this financial year. There are 46 running projects in Amathole District Municipality this Financial Year with a budget of R120 million.
