Christmas comes early for 58 destitute families in Cala
East London——- Eastern Cape Human SettlementsMEC, Nonceba Kontsiwe, will spread Christmas cheer to 58 destitute families including a visually impaired father of five, when she hands over houses to the impoverished families in Cala on 15 December 2021.
The beneficiaries have benefitted from the Department’s rural project named Cala 1409 (988 units) which is spread over 8 villages in Cala under Sakhisizwe Local Municipality, at a budget of R150 million. The project has 658 houses completed thus far.
Mlulami Malgas who is a 57-year-old father of five is one of the beneficiaries set to receive his house in time for Christmas. Malgas has been living with his children in a single mud flat, dependent on government social grant for his children and disability. His living conditions were not conducive for his condition.
The Department prioritises the destitute beneficiaries by providing them with decent quality houses to better their lives. These beneficiaries include, the elderly, disabled, child headed households and military veterans.
The Department has 80 running projects in Chris Hani this financial year with a budget of R262 million.
