The family of the late baby Anothando Mthobi who was born with a rare genetic condition will spend Christmas in a new home. This as Eastern Cape Human Settlements MEC, Nonceba Kontsiwe will handover a house to the family of seven in Ngavungavu Village in Libode on the 23rd of December, 2021.

The plight of the family was brought to the department’s attention in August following a visit by various stakeholders in their home. It was discovered that the entire family had been living in a single room mud structure. The department’s intervention will see the family move from that structure to a 40M2 house with two bedrooms, a lounge and an open plan kitchen.

The department continues to prioritize the destitute as promised in its 2021/22 policy. These beneficiaries include the elderly, disabled, child headed homes and military veterans. This financial year, the department has 83 running projects in the OR Tambo district with a budget of 225-million rands.
