Eastern Cape Premier Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane together with Human Settlements MEC Nonceba Kontsiwe will on Wednesday 2 February 2022, officially handover houses to six destitute families, whose plight was identified during a presidential visit in Gqeberha last year.

The handover will also see 85 title deeds handed over to low-cost housing homeowners.

One of the beneficiaries that needed urgent assistance include 97-year-old Nosesi Majiki from Veeplaas who is currently living with her daughter and three (3) grandchildren in a temporary shelter provided by the municipality. This intervention is to assist poverty stricken families faced with several housing challenges including homelessness.

The other beneficiaries were faced with evictions after they lost their jobs and could not repay bonds in Motherwell. They form part of the Hlano Project which is the intervention by government to assist the destitute families by providing a subsidy to help pay housing loans and confirm homeownership.
