MEC KONTSIWE KICKSTARTS THE NELSON MANDELA MONTH WITH A HOUSE AND TITLE DEEDS HANDOVER

Eastern Cape Human Settlements MEC, Nonceba Kontsiwe, will be handing over a house to a 33-year-old destitute youth who’s looking after 3 of his siblings in Ngangelizwe in Mthatha. This as part of a first leg of a two-day service delivery rollout programme. The second leg will see MEC Kontsiwe handover 69 title deeds to low-cost housing beneficiaries at EmaXesibeni. These programmes are scheduled for the 04th and 05th July 2022 respectively. They form part of the department’s Nelson Mandela Month Programme to restore human dignity as inspired by the late stateman, Nelson Mandela.

The two-day programme will commence in OR Tambo where 33-year-old Luyanda Ngalo who is unemployed and taking care of his siblings is set to receive a house. Ngalo and his family were staying in a dilapidated flat in Ngangelizwe, which leaks during rainy days. The house is part of the Ngangelizwe 200 (141), an Innovative Sustainable Building Technology (ISBT) housing project.

The scope of work includes construction of 141 units for destitute and vulnerable groups in society who are living under poor conditions. A total of 72 units have been completed and handed over to beneficiaries in this project.

On day two, there will a title deeds handover to rightful beneficiaries in EmaXesibeni who all benefitted from the Mt Ayliff 700 project, with all units completed to date. MEC Kontsiwe will also be visiting some of the beneficiaries in their homes in this project as part of the handover. In the current financial year, the department plans to register 8000 title deeds in the province.

The elderly, disabled, child-headed households and military veterans are prioritized by providing them with decent quality homes.
