MEC SIPHOKAZI LUSITHI TO HANDOVER 25 NEW HOUSES TO DR AB XUMA VILLAGERS INCLUDING 102-YEAR-OLD GRANDMOTHER
East London——– Rural development will receive a boost when Eastern Cape Human Settlements MEC, Siphokazi Lusithi, hands over 25 new houses to impoverished families in Dr AB Xuma Local Municipality on 23 September 2022. All beneficiaries, including a 102-year-old grandmother from Inkwenkwezi, benefitted from a multimillion-rand rural housing project in the municipality.
Nofimbile Sobo (102-year-old) will receive her house after staying with her five children and grandchildren in a mud structure in Trust Village.
The 25 beneficiaries form part of the Department’s Inkwenkwezi 300, a rural housing project to benefit 300 families in Inkwenkwezi. The scope of the project includes construction of 300 housing units, installation of rainwater tanks and VIP Toilets infrastructure services, at a contract value of R45 million. To date a total of 211 houses have been completed in the project. In the entire Chris Hani District Municipality, the Department has 81 running projects with a budget of R255 million this financial year.
The handover is a build up to the provincial Heritage Month event to take place in the same municipality on Saturday.
