EASTERN CAPE DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SETTLEMENTS TO HOST 8TH ANNUAL JOE SLOVO LECTURE AS PART OF REMEMBERING THE LIFE AND TIMES OF THE FORMER HOUSING MINISTER
The Eastern Cape Department of Human Settlements will be hosting the Annual Joe Slovo Memorial Lecture, to be held on Tuesday, 25 October 2022 under the theme “Mind the gap; leave no one and place behind”. The Joe Slovo Lecture will be delivered by Honourable Dibolelo Mahlatsi, Member of Parliament.
The Joe Slovo Memorial lecture serves as a platform for the department to reflect, critique and provide an opportunity to encourage a public discourse on the state of human settlements in the province. The aim is to talk into the current challenges confronted by the sector and propose alternatives in line with the late Minister of Housing, Joe Slovo’s vision for providing housing in the country. The lecture is also to celebrate the life and vision of Joe Slovo as the founding father of pro poor housing policies in South Africa.
During the current Financial Year, the department continues to provide housing opportunities with special focus and prioritization of destitute and vulnerable groups in society.
The lecture forms part of the Human Settlements Month programme, where several service delivery activities are planned for the month of October.
