DESTITUTE STERKSPRUIT FAMILIES INCLUDING YOUTH TO RECEIVE NEW HOUSES DURING EASTERN CAPE PROVINCIAL LEGISLATURE TAKING LEGISLATURE TO THE PEOPLE
A total of 5 destitute families including a 31-year-old woman from Mokhesi Village will receive new houses to improve and change their living conditions in Senqu Local Municipality on Thursday, 2 February 2023. The handover, led by Eastern Cape MEC for Human Settlements, Siphokazi Lusithi, forms part of the week-long Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature Taking Legislature to the People Programme in Joe Gqabi District Municipality.
The 5 families are currently living under poor conditions, some in dilapidated mud structures, shacks, and others homeless. They benefitted from the EC Department of Human Settlements’ running housing project called Joe Gqabi Emergency 150 (85). The project entails the construction of 85 houses with water tanks, for the families who are in dire need of decent shelter, due to disasters or are destitute. To date the project has completed 30 houses.
One of the families set to receive a new house on the day is that of 31-year-old Matshidiso Thepane. She is the head of the family of four including her two siblings and her two children following the death of their parents.
