MEC SIPHOKAZI LUSITHI TO VISIT DIKENI FOLLOWING UNBLOCKING OF HOUSING PROJECT
The Eastern Cape Human Settlements MEC, Honourable Siphokazi Lusithi will conduct an oversight visit to Dikeni in the Raymond Mhlaba Local Municipality on Thursday, 04 May 2023, to assess progress after the recent unblocking of a multi-million-rand housing project.
Alice Mavuso 300 is one of the recently unblocked projects by the Department after it had stalled due to bulk infrastructure-related challenges. The project scope entails the construction of 300 housing units, with 70 already at various housing stages. The Honourable MEC will conclude the oversight visit with the community meeting to update the community on the project and other human settlements related matters.
MEC Lusithi is leading a departmental campaign to systemically unblock the historically blocked projects in the province. These projects were blocked due to bulk infrastructure challenges and the termination of poor performing contractors. The Department has collaborated with Municipalities and implementing agents to effectively co-ordinate the unblocking of the blocked projects. A total of 34 projects have already been unblocked.
The members of the media are invited to the visit to be held as follows:
Date: Thursday, 04 May 2023
Venue: Mavuso Village, Dikeni, Raymond Mhlaba Local Municipality
Time: 10h00
Issued by the Eastern Cape Department of Human Settlements.
