52 FAMILIES WHO WERE LIVING IN MUD STRUCTURES TO RECEIVE NEW HOUSES IN BUFFALO CITY METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY 

In efforts to eradicate mud structures and provide decent quality houses in poverty-stricken communities, the Eastern Cape Human Settlements MEC, Siphokazi Lusithi, will on Thursday, 8 June 2023, officially handover 52 houses to beneficiaries in the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality.

The villagers of Masingatha and Tolofiyeni eQonce benefitted from a government intervention to assist destitute and vulnerable groups in society by improving their living conditions. Fifty-nine-year-old (59) Makhaya Ndevu is one of the beneficiaries to receive a newly completed house. Ndevu with his family which includes his wife, and two children are staying in a dilapidated mud structure in Masingatha village. He makes a living through garden work in the village.

This housing project will benefit a total of 100 destitute villagers from Masingatha and Tolofiyeni who were living in dire conditions mainly in dilapidated mud structures and shacks as part of a programme to eradicate mud structures and rescue destitute families from poor living conditions.

There are 50 houses to be built in each village. To date, 52 houses are already completed and ready for handover.  Some of the beneficiaries include the elderly, people living with disabilities and child headed households. MEC Lusithi will also conduct an oversight visit to the project in Tolofiyeni on the day.
