The Eastern Cape Department of Human Settlements MEC, Siphokazi Lusithi, will on Wednesday, 06 March 2024 officially handover title deeds to Kenton On Sea housing beneficiaries within the Ndlambe Local Municipalty. The Department will also outline plans and introduce three contractors for further housing development in the municipality. Mama Ntwebi Mavis Ncwadi (96) will be amongst 142 beneficiaries who will receive their title deeds on the day. Issuing of title deeds ensures that beneficiaries can legally own their properties. In the past, the issuing of title deeds has been moving at a slow pace due to a number of challenges, such as untraceable beneficiaries, misallocation of title deeds, illegal occupation, selling of houses and deceased beneficiaries. The handover of title deeds forms part of the national Title Deeds Restoration Programme to prioritise and fast-track the issuing of title deeds to rightful beneficiaries. This initiative aims to deal with the backlog and ensures access to adequate housing and full homeownership. After the title deeds handover, MEC Lusithi will proceed to visit Marselle and Alexandria to introduce the contractors for the following housing projects; Marselle 500, Alexandria 402 (297) in Mandela and Alexandria 383 in Zinyoka.
