Human Settlements Deputy Minister, Pamela Tshwete, together with the Eastern Cape Department of Human Settlements MEC, Siphokazi Lusithi, will on Friday, 15 March 2024, officially handover 328 title deeds to Duncan Village housing beneficiaries within the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality. The handover forms part of the National Title Deeds Restoration Programme to prioritise and fast-track the issuing of title deeds to rightful beneficiaries.

The beneficiaries of Duncan Village 352, a housing project that commenced in 2000, will legally own their government subsidised houses ensuring sustainable housing for the previously destitute families. Ntombizodwa Solomon, 75, is among the 328 beneficiaries who will be receiving their title deeds on the day.

All recipients are set to receive their title deeds following a verification process undertaken by the Department together with BCMM. The process assists with ensuring the rightful beneficiaries receive their title deeds and address identified challenges in that municipality.

Deputy Minister Tshwete and MEC Lusithi will visit some of the elderly beneficiaries in their homes to handover their title deeds. This will be followed by a community engagement and handing over ceremony at the community hall.

The Department has embarked on a Title Deeds Restoration Programme to address the backlog and thus ensuring access to adequate housing and full homeownership.
