The MEC for Public Works, Infrastructure and Human Settlements, Ms Siphokazi Lusithi, today, 30 January 2026, handed over 211 title deeds to housing beneficiaries in Maletswai as part of her two-day service delivery visit to the Joe Gqabi District.

“This is one way as this government we seek to bring development into the lives of our people because title deeds are not only about the beneficiaries, but it is about the families and breaking the cycle of poverty and landlessness,” said MEC Lusithi.

One of the beneficiaries who received a title deed delivered to her home by MEC Lusithi was Mary Qudelo (78) from Dukathole. “I am so happy to receive my title deed. I have been waiting for this day; my heart is full of joy. I thank you for making this possible,” said Qudelo.

The other beneficiary is 60-year-old Augustine Galelo who said; “I am truly grateful and very happy. I have never received something like this before. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

The 211 recipients were previously destitute families in Dukathole who benefitted from the  Dukathole 743 and Dukathole Area 13 (300) human settlements projects in the municipality. The handover aims to restore dignity and promote secure homeownership.

The MEC’s visit was preceded by a visit to Ntlalo High School in Steynsburg, to assess the state of readiness for the 2026 academic year and handed over school shoes, sanitary towels, calculators, dignity packs, and other departmental support to 50 learners.
