Eastern Cape MEC for Public Works, Infrastructure and Human Settlements Hon.
Siphokazi Lusithi, will on Thursday, 12 December 2024, officially handover 74 houses to
families in need, mainly the elderly, who benefitted from two human settlements
projects in Alexandria in the Ndlambe Local Municipality.
The two projects fall under the Remedial (Rectification) Works Programme and will
provide much needed relief to over 500 families in the small farming town. One of the
beneficiaries who will receive a house is Lizzie Samani, 72, who lives in a delipidated
shack.
Samani’s house forms part of the Alexandria 402 project, which already has 30
completed houses. The other project is Alexandria 383 with 44 completed houses. The
Department plans to rectify 1 277 units under the Remedial Works Programme across
the province during this financial year.
The Remedial Works Programme is critical to redressing the quality challenges
experienced in old projects. Through this programme, the Department has been able to
assist 4171 beneficiaries over the past five years.
